A Dark and Stormy Night

It was a dark and stormy night in Vermont. I had arrived a few hours earlier after a two and a half hour ride from Burlington in a taxi driven by a guy who:
1. Did not have a map.
2. Had a GPS but did not know how to use it.
3. Could not read road signs even when I read them out to him (something wrong here).

Many Snow

We had some snow and lots of wind over the weekend of December 10-12, 2010.

On Sunday morning there was a large drift to the south of the house (but the door could still be opened):

And there was a corresponding amount of snow on our road.

Rick Clark showed up with the Town of Sheldon snowplow and did the usual nice job - but almost got stuck by the old milk house.

A weekend in Chicago (really North Riverside, but it's close)

We visited with Andre, Peni and Joseph the last weekend in August. They were making a lightning tour of the US - this was their first stop, followed by Buffalo, New York and Upland, California.

Joseph made significant progress in cutting, gluing and dribbling.

Wisconson Ice Photos - January 2010

The nights of January 17th and January 18th were perfect for hoarfrost, a situation where the air is just at freezing and is saturated with moisture (100% relative humidity). The temperature was exactly at the triple point of water where vapor, liquid and ice are in equilibrium, so the smallest imperfection of discontinuity on a surface formed a nucleation point for ice crystals. This happens from time to time, but never, as far as I know, two days in a row!

I took a lot of photos....

Andre, Peni and Joseph in Asia

Andre, Peni and Joseph have been spending an inordinate amount of time on the other side of the International Date Line.

Fortunately, they have sent us many photos and a great travelogue.

Here are the photos: http://warrenbuckles.com/APJ_ASIA/index.html

Vermont, December 2009

I spent three weeks at the Vermont Studio Center during December 2009, doing a bit of writing and messing with their computer systems.

Here are some photos from there
